Quota Warnings and FAQs

Overview

This page provides examples of Quota Warnings and instructions for you to download your e-mail from the server which lowers the disk space used.

Receiving a Quota Warning

If you received a Quota Warning, this means that you have used 20 MB of server disk space or more. You should delete messages from the server to keep your disk space usage low (see instructions that follow, if you need them).

Note: It is important to pay attention to a Quota Warning because of the limits set by the server. If your account reaches 25 MB of disk space, you will be unable to receive new messages.

Warning at 20 Megabytes

Quota Warning - Approach Disk Limitations

      Dear Valued Customer,

Your Qwest.net e-mail box has exceeded 20 Megabytes in size. In order to provide the highest quality service, e-mail boxes are limited to 25 Megabytes and a warning is delivered when they exceed 20 Megabytes. If your e-mail box reaches 25 Megabytes, you will no longer be able to receive e-mail.

Please download your e-mail and delete it from the server to reduce your e-mail box size.

      Thank You,

      Qwest.net Technical Support

Warning at 25 Megabytes

Quota Warning - Over Disk Limitations

      Dear Valued Customer,

Your Qwest.net e-mail box has exceeded 25 Megabytes in size. In order to provide the highest quality service, e-mail boxes are limited to 25 Megabytes and a warning is delivered when they exceed 20 Megabytes.

Until you download your mail from the server your account will be unable to receive new mail.

      Thank You,

      Qwest.net Technical Support

Quota Warning FAQs

Q:  I received a Quota Warning. What should I do?

A: The message you've received indicates that your disk space is near capacity. It could be that your preferences or settings have been set to store your messages on the server, rather than to download them to your files. To download your messages, follow the steps for your e-mail software:

Netscape 4.5:

    1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
    2. Click the "+" in front of the Mail & Newsgroups category.
    3. Select Mail Servers from the Mail & Newsgroups list. Mail Servers information appears at the right.
    4. In the Incoming Mail Servers section, select Edit...
    5. Click the POP tab. Clear the Leave messages on the server check box.
    6. Click OK and OK again.
    7. From the Communicator menu, select Messenger.
    8. Click the Get Msg button.

Netscape 4.0x:

    1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
    2. Click the "+" in front of the Mail & Groups category.
    3. Select Mail Servers from the Mail & Groups list.
    4. Clear the Leave messages on the server check box, and click OK.
    5. From the Communicator menu, select Messenger.
    6. Click the Get Msg button.

Outlook Express:

Outlook Express does not offer this option. If you still receive a Quota Warning, see the last FAQ in this section.

Outlook 5.0:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
  2. Click the Mail tab.
  3. Select your Qwest.net mail account.
  4. Click Properties.
  5. Click the Advanced tab. Clear the Leave a copy of messages on server check box.
  6. Click OK and Close.
  7. Open Outlook.
  8. Click the Send / Receive button.

Q: I've checked my settings and I have not enabled the option to leave messages on the server. Why am I still receiving a Quota Warning?

A: If you do not have the option enabled to leave all of your messages on the server, it is possible that you have large messages that are being stored. To check this option, just follow these steps for your e-mail software:

Netscape 4.5:

    1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
    2. Click the "+" in front of the Mail & Newsgroups category.
    3. Select Disk Space from the Mail & Newsgroups list. Disk Space information appears at the right.
    4. Clear the Do not store messages locally that are larger than __ KB check box.
    5. Click OK.
    6. From the Communicator menu, select Messenger.
    7. Click the Get Msg button.

Netscape 4.0x:

    1. From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
    2. Click Advanced and then click Disk Space.
    3. Clear the Do not store messages locally that are larger than __ KB check box.
    4. Click OK.
    5. From the Communicator menu, select Messenger.
    6. Click the Get Msg button.

Outlook Express or Outlook:

Outlook Express and Outlook do not offer this option. If you still receive a Quota Warning, see the last FAQ in this section.

Q: I've checked my settings, and I have not enabled options to store large messages. Why am I still receiving a Quota Warning?

A: The Quota Warning message that you received is an auto-generated message that is sent to the mailbox of any customer whose account exceeds 20 Megabytes or 25 Megabytes of disk space.

If you have verified that neither of these options are enabled in your e-mail software, you may have been sent a large e-mail that exceeded the disk limitations. It is important to note that the Quota Warning message you received is automatically generated. Even if you were able to download the large message imimages/globaltely after it was received on the server, this Quota Warning message will be sent.

If you have verified your settings as described in the two previous FAQs, then you may disregard the Quota Message that would have been sent on for one unusual e-mail size that was then downloaded off the server. If, however, you frequently receive a Quota Warning message and you are not being sent large e-mails, please contact Technical Support (for Qwest.net customers).
