Macintosh® Netscape® Custom Installation Instructions

Overview

The following Custom Install Instructions are for existing Qwest.net subscribers who have previously installed their Qwest.net account onto a computer using Qwest.net CD.

Since you're already a Qwest.net subscriber, you were sent a CD. You will need to install Netscape® Communicator™ from the CD. Instead of choosing the Typical install, you will be choosing Custom install.

This will allow your Qwest.net account information to remain unchanged, but enable you to have the same user account information on both computers, or just on your new computer.

The Custom Install instructions are different for Macintosh users than for Microsoft Windows 95/98 and Windows NT® users. Both sets of instructions are included here. You may want to print the instructions before loading the Custom Install version of Netscape from your Qwest.net CD.

Remember to print the custom install instructions for the operating system of the computer you will be installing Netscape on. It may not be the same as your current computer.

Macintosh

  1. Uninstall Netscape and FreePPP.

If you are dialing into another server or ISP, you will need to make note of the information that is currently in FreePPP to reconfigure at a later time.

NOTE: To make a copy, you can take a screen shot of the FreePPP configuration [caps lock + option + shift + 4], which will be saved on your computer as a file called 'pic 1'. Just double-click on the PIC 1 file and print it.

  2. Open the Qwest.net CD and double-click on the Qwest.net Install icon.
  3. Click Install Qwest.net.
  4. Click Setup (to set up this computer to use an existing Qwest.net account).
  5. At the Qwest.net Access Kit screen, click Next.
  6. Accept the Terms of Service Agreement.
  7. At the Software Installation screen, choose their Hard Drive and click Next, then click OK.
  8. After the installation is complete, click Next, then click Next again to proceed.
  9. At the Personal Information screen, enter your Name and click Next. Enter your Account ID and Password and click Next.
  10. At the Custom Dialing Configuration, type the area code and any additional dialing properties that are necessary for you to make a connection.
  11. At the Modem Setup screen, either ask FreePPP to autodetect the modem or select it from the drop-down list. If the modem is external, select the modem port, and click Next.
  12. At the Dialup Number Selection screen, select an access number and click Next.
  13. Verify that the information is correct in the Configuration Summary screen and select Next. After the configuration is complete, click Next and you will be prompted to restart your computer. Click Restart.

NOTE: The first time you launch Netscape Communicator, you will need to change your homepage to bring you to the Qwest.net start page. To do so, go to Edit > Preferences > Navigator and set your home page to http://www.my_qwest.net.
